Emoji / Emoticon
An emoji or emoticon describes certain characters or symbols that are intended to express the respective mood or certain feelings of the conversation partner in a written communication such as a chat. In the meantime, thanks to messengers such as WhatsApp or Facebook, there are countless emojis that can be used in digital correspondence, but the most frequently used emoticons are still the smileys. Some programmes now even put the particular string of characters directly into a graphic representation.
